The Gryphons
The Client:
The University of Leeds has consistently demonstrated its commitment to providing outstanding fitness facilities for its student community. Building on the success of the acclaimed gym ‘THE EDGE’, the university sought to elevate its fitness offerings further. The focus was on expanding facilities to cater specifically to elite athletes and sportspersons, setting the stage for a ground-breaking strength and conditioning gym project.
The Brief:
zynk Design were commissioned to inject new life into the Cromer Terrace facility at the University. The brief; transform an existing aerobics studio into a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning gym. The space also required a new physiotherapy studio and meeting room, to cater for the universities high level sports teams.
Introducing The Gryphons.
The Solution:
Drawing inspiration from the Gryphons brand colours, zynk applied electric green colour hues throughout the design of the space. The result is an energetic and dynamic environment with a visually stimulating interior, taking advantage of the high ceilings and vast amounts of natural light.
New rubber flooring has been laid over the previous studio foundations to provide an area for weightlifting activities. The space boasts 8 zones, defined by suspended green LED rafts alongside functional white lighting to highlight the entire space. The central track creates 3 main zones for various activities. New decoration and workout equipment has been incorporated into the space, in addition to an enhanced audio system.
Beyond the gym area, the entrance lobby has been uplifted with new flooring, decorations, graphics and lighting. The goal is the create an impactful sense of arrival to the new gym facilities. A new office and assessment room have been developed off the main gym floor. Furthermore, the existing upstairs treatment rooms have been uplifted with new flooring, paint scheme and graphics to provide the very best facilities and support to the rising athletic stars.
