Hurlands has appointed Zynk Design to create the interior concept for a new pickleball and padel club in Farnham, Surrey, planned as the largest venue of its kind in the UK: 10 pickleball courts, 4 indoor padel courts and 3 outdoor courts across 60,000 sq ft.
The brief goes well beyond the courts. Hurlands wants a club that newcomers and experienced players will both want to spend the day in, so the design covers a reception that sets the tone on arrival, a pro shop, a lounge for work, events and downtime, changing rooms, a functional studio, a holistic studio and treatment rooms for recovery.
The direction takes its cue from the Surrey Hills and Farnham’s market town: modern rustic warmth, timber and earthy tones, set against the honesty of the building’s industrial frame. The aim is a modern rural retreat rather than a sports hall, and a club that earns before, between and after the games.
