The Client
CA Ventures is a global real estate investment company entering the UK student accommodation market for the first time under the Novel Student brand. To date, zynk has been working on projects in Sheffield, Belfast, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Leicester. Properties are due to open by the start of the 2021 academic year.
The Brief
Create an engaging fitness space with a distinct personality that resonates with the student demographic. Taking inspiration from the interior of the main accommodation block, the design needed to be responsive to the overarching theme but original in its personality.
The Solution
Novel Student Gym Glasgow
Colour pop and bespoke pieces of graffiti artwork have been used to create a bold personality that is both edgy and urban. The space is exciting and youthful, and uses the contrast of rough, black, brick slips against a canvas of smooth, calm, paint finish to add to the lux urban interior. Careful attention was given to floor planning to accommodate a suite of cutting-edge Technogym equipment and ensure a smooth flow of members during peak and off-peak times.
Novel Student Gym Edinburgh
Paying homage to Dundee Street’s silk mill history, zynk took inspiration from the silk weaving trade. zynk used the concept of silk thread its central design elements which can be seen throughout the venue, including a bespoke lighting design that features striking lines of light travelling down the walls from the brightly lit ceiling. This lighting creates synergy between all the leisure amenities, producing a sophisticated ambience throughout.
The silk mill theme continues throughout the gym design with custom-built screens featuring yellow rope which are used to create distinct exercise zones. Further personality is added throughout the gym design with the use of colour pop which produces a vibrant and cool feel to the interior.
Novel Student Gym Sheffield
Striking neon-style signage and bespoke lighting designs have been used to create an invigorating brand experience for students. These have been used against a backdrop of raw materials and soft colours to add an urban industrial sense to the space. Situated in the heart of the lux student living quarters, the gym also contains the latest Technogym fitness equipment, carefully laid out in a sequence that maximises the space and ensures a smooth flow of students through the area at peak times.
