The client
ARMA is the ultimate destination for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), recovery, and productivity. Based in Clapham, London, the state-of-the-art facility offers elite BJJ training with the world’s best Jiu Jitsu athletes, cutting-edge training and recovery programs, and a community driven co-working space.
A Carlson Gracie affiliated gym, ARMA exists to fuel passion and love for BJJ. The brand strives to ‘go beyond’ just a gym. They are a hub, an inspirational community of like minded people with a shared ambition for progress.
The Brief
ARMA challenged zynk to redefine the BJJ gym.
ARMA wanted to elevate and build on the existing preconceptions of what a BJJ gym is. Together, we visioned a space where deep connections and inspiring friendships are formed, through hard work and camaraderie.
The Solution
The design concept behind ARMA steers away from a traditional martial arts environment. With a focus on community and inclusivity, the design concept aims to encourage participation, even to those who are not familiar with BJJ.
The result is a truly unique space that is sophisticated, ignites curiosity and supports development. The thoughtfully designed interiors compliment the cutting edge equipment and facilities.
The Café Juice Bar takes inspiration for a Balinese style restaurant, incorporating a mixture of natural biophilic elements to create calming, grounding atmosphere. A mixture of wood, stones and flora help to evoke a connection to nature, whilst the neutral pastel colours offer a sense of calm.
Further encouraging relaxation and calm, the wet spa features a sauna, hot loungers and an ice bath, providing options for hot and cold therapy. The ARMA spa has been designed with social wellness in mind, meaning users can use the facilities in pairs.
We designed the gym to replicate the ARMA logo within the lighting beams, giving constant reference back to their “Go Beyond” Branding.
The co-working lounge demonstrates the brands commitment to it’s community. The space has been designed as a welcoming ‘home from home’, encouraging users to stay and be productive within the space.
