Fusion

The Client

zynk have been approached by Fusion Lifestyle for an exciting interior design project at Kingsmead Leisure Centre in Canterbury. Fusion Lifestyle is a distinguished sports and leisure management company, overseeing more than 50 leisure facilities nationwide. As the local authority contract holder for the Kingsmead Leisure Centre, Fusion Lifestyle work closely with the site operator ActiveLife to deliver exceptional recreational experiences to the community.

The Brief

Despite its standing as the number one Health and Fitness centre in Canterbury, the Kingsmead Leisure Centre faced a challenge – its physical structure appeared dated and interiors in desperate need of complete refurbishment.

zynk received a comprehensive brief from Fusion Lifestyle, to create a contemporary interior design solution to create a new identity for the centre. Working alongside Abbey Design, the main architects for the project, zynk were tasked to upgrade the reception and cafe bar area, three new innovative group exercise studios, a new build village changing space and a thermal suite.

The Solution

A brand-new entrance, foyer and café area has been designed with community at the forefront. The new open space plan creates a contemporary environment for members to gather, and spend an extended period of time.  The entrance hall is fitted with self-check-in zones to streamline the entry process, as a result, improving the customer experience.

The new multi-zone gym features state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Ceiling rafts and floor separation have been implemented into the design to improve the customer journey throughout the gym and aid navigation. Zoning within the gym space has been created using different coloured materials. The gym space plays with orange light and a mixture of textures to create an energetic workout space.

The Intensity Studio is a brand-new offering by Fusion, looking to integrate HIIT workouts with BOX12 sessions.

Three additional boutique studios have been designed to extend the class offering at the leisure centre. Cycle, multipurpose exercise, and a holistic studio all tie together to create the stunning transformation. Each boutique studio has intricate, dynamic audio and visual lighting, creating an immersive multi-sensory experience.

The dry changing area has been reconfigured into a new build village changing area and thermal suite, featuring steam, sauna, and ice rooms.
